Local Marketing: Local PPC

Local Marketing: Local PPC

As Google grows so does its products and services, and one can definitely argue that the changes they have made in the past 9 months show a definite slant towards an emphasis in Local Marketing.  This is especially evident in their Adwords Account Pay Per Click (PPC) programs.

The first major change came with the introduction of Geotargeting, or what I call Supertargeting.  Geotargeting allows advertisers to chose the delivery area of their ad to within 1 km or .6 miles.  Let me say that again so that we all understand.  You can make sure that the only people who see your ad are the ones who will be most likely to use it the people in your local community!

But not only have they allowed advertisers to show their ads in specific area around their stores or service areas, they also hold those ads to a different standard.

Roughly translated, if I run an ad for Widgets that is targeted to people who live and work within 20 miles of my store or office, the farthest away that you will really want to advertise, and someone else runs an ad selling the same product or service only they mark the nation as their demographic area, my ads will get a higher priority and cost me less.  Becuase my information is targeted so directly to the searcher!

This is a tremendous boost to the small business that is Local Marketing who doesn’t have a huge budget to waste on clicks that will most likely not mean new business.  They will now save money and get more targeted leads for their service or product.

But what about Google Local entries.  They do seem to have a negative effect on Organic Search Results.  Well Google has an answer for that too.  You can now place your ads within the Google Local Search Results.  They work just the same as your regular adwords account but they only show up when you use local search!  To get started simply log into the Google Business Center and at the bottom left hand corner of your listings you will see a link that says advertise on Google Maps.  If your Local Marketing, you need this ad.

The link will take you to a special area of Adwords.  If you don’t already have an account now is the perfect time to get started.  Register, create your ad and enter in your keywords.  Set your budget and off you go!

Two ways that Google is leveling the playing field between huge corporatins with unlimited budgets and the little guy!

There is a considerable amount of information involved with using adwords correctly.  Far too much to include here.  If you are new to Adwords and need some help with training, we would be more than happy to help you!
